1 Satin Stripes
These are striped designs all in the satin weave, with warp- and weft-satin stripes alternating. The stripes may be the same or different widths. -
2 Satin Royal
A heavy silk satin woven with two warps and one weft. The face is twill and there are satin stripes in the width, the back is all-satin. Piece-dyed mostly in blues. -
3 Satin A Fils Tires
Silk satin composed of one-inch satin stripes separated by 6 or 8 thick cords. Used largely during the early 19th century for making head coverings as the material could be easily shirred by pulling the thick cords. 4 Satin Vigoureux
A heavy dress material woven in satin stripes, one stripe plain dyed yarn alternating with equal width stripe of vigoureux yarn. The effect is very striking. All worsted yarns. -
5 Satin Checks
Dress fabrics made from cotton or silk with checks of satin weave on a plain ground. The cloth is bleached, dyed or printed. Usually made in light weights. A standard cloth is made 39/40-in. finished with 62 reed, 56 picks per inch, 50's ground warp and weft and 2/100's satin stripe and checking. The satin warp stripes are crammed in the reed, and the weft stripes are also crammed. -
6 Satin Ecossais
An all-silk satin, formerly made in France with two sets of warp of different colours - one showing warp stripes on the face and the other weaving plain, weft colour bars as checks. The name (meaning " Scotch Satin ") was given because of the plaid effect produced. -
7 Satin Stripe Canvas
A fancy fabric for embroidery work having alternate stripes of satin and plain weaves. The satin stripe is silk with the rest of the warp two-fold cotton. A coarse flax weft gives a weft cord effect in the silk stripe.Dictionary of the English textile terms > Satin Stripe Canvas

8 Satin De Lyon
A very lustrous all-silk cloth in 5-shaft satin weave for face and twill back. All grege yarns. Schreiner finish. Has hair-line stripes and is used for linings. -
9 Satin Tick
A cotton fabric, made in satin weave, used for upholstery, it has heavy yarns in coloured stripes. -
10 Crammed Stripes
These are stripes produced in fabrics by cramming ends in the reed. Some portions of the cloth thus have a greater number of ends per inch than another. A common form of crammed stripe is illustrated, with six-shaft satin stripes on plain ground. In the cotton trade this term is generally used to describe all styles of crammed effects. In the woollen trade a special cloth is known as " Crammed Stripe " and is woven with a plain ground and a six-shaft satin stripe, the construction is 64's botany weft about 60 picks per inch, 72 ends ground 2/64's botany and stripes of 40's mohair and 60's cotton alternating for 48 ends

11 Medium Stripes
Cotton cloths woven in dobby looms on 10-shafts, with stripes formed by alternating the 5-end satin, such as 20-ends warp satin, 20-ends weft satin. Quality about 72 ends and 68 picks per inch, 36's warp, 42's weft. -
12 Roman Stripes
Fabrics made with cotton warp and silk weft in which the cotton warp is entirely cohered by the silk weft. Usually a weft satin weave is adopted. The silk weft is in very brilliant colours and makes varie-coloured stripes across the cloth. -
13 Bazan
A reversed satin fabric, all cotton, woven in grey stripes formed by warp satin and weft satin (5-shaft) weave, from 64 X 60 to 70 X 72 per inch, 26's/18's, dyed black, shipped to the Near East. Also known as satin stripes. -
14 Nainsook Checks
An all-cotton coloured cloth in satin or twill check designs in the U.S.A. Usually 32-in. wide, 70 ends and 68 picks per inch, 32's warp, 40's weft. The design has small squares of plain, bordered in warp and weft by narrow satin stripes. Variations are obtained by various twills in the stripes. -
15 Taborette
Silk fabric woven in stripes of warp satin and weft rib. All-silk warp and silk weft or two-fold super Egyptian cotton weft. The satin stripes are heavily crammed. One cloth is made 180 ends and 72 picks per inch, 75 denier silk warp and 2/100's cotton weft. The cloth is dyed for curtains, etc. -
16 Satinade
French term for satinet. An obsolete French and Italian tapestry made of waste silk warp and silk weft, dyed in different colours and forming stripe patterns. A light French dress fabric made in warp satin stripes on a taffeta ground, with silk warp and linen weft. Similar to Satin de Bruges, but inferior. First mentioned in 1720 as from Flanders. -
17 Love Ribbon
A term for a black or white narrow gauze ribbon with satin stripes. Used to tie on crepe hat bands at funerals or worn by ladies in their house caps during the 18th century. -
18 Mashru
A silk dress fabric, made with cotton back and woven by the natives of Punjab and Sind, India. The name means " permitted " in vernacular, with reference to the law forbidding Mohammedans to wear pure animal fibre (silk) garments. The cotton back being next to the skin the fabric is worn by orthodox Mohammedans. The most customary fabric is made with very highly finished satin stripes, and at Ranjore, Hyderabad and Trichinopoly it is made with gold figures. The fabric is now made of all mercerized cotton imported from England. -

A fabric made with silk satin stripes on a cotton ground, using cotton weft. -
20 Tabaret
A silk dress fabric woven in alternate moreen and satin stripes with coloured yarns in the moreen portions.
